Out of the 11,000 immigrants, 3000 new permanent residents arrived through the Provincial Nominee Program. Thus, the PNPs have become a new source of immigration to Canada for several aspirants.
More than 2,000 of the permanent residents that entered the country were spouses and common-law partners of Canadian permanent residents and citizens.
Another 2,000 individuals got permanent residence in May through the Canadian Experience Class of the Express Entry.
Since March, the IRCC has issued 35,100 Invitations to Apply for Canadian permanent residence to PNP and CEC candidates. Canada invited candidates from these two programs only as it was easier to complete the process for such candidates who were already present in the country rather than the express entry candidates from overseas.
A substantial rise in the immigration levels in May combined with the reopening of the regular Express Entry draw surely indicates that Canada is preparing to welcome more immigrants in the coming months.
