Newfoundland and Labrador’s new immigration pathway

The province of Newfoundland and Labrador has announced to start taking applications for its new immigration program on January 2. The new immigration program – Priority Skills Newfoundland and Labrador will target skilled immigrants. Individuals who have experience in fields such as ocean sciences and technology are preferred in this immigration program. This new immigration program is launched to address the labor shortages in some of the highly skilled occupations. Immigrants require a work experience of at least one year along with a Masters or a Doctorate degree from Memorial University within a period of three years.

Application process for the new immigration process

The new immigration pathway will be based on the Expression of Interest system. Interested candidates have to submit an EOI profile to the online portal of the province and if the province approves their skills, they will receive an invitation through which they can apply for a provincial nomination.

Eligibility Requirements

Individuals need to have work experience of a minimum of one year in any of the in-demand occupations of the province. Students who have received either a Ph.D. or a master’s degree from Memorial University in the past 3 years are also eligible for this new immigration stream provided that they have degrees in one of the four streams: Agriculture, Health Care, Technology, and Aquaculture. In addition, candidates require a Canadian Language Benchmark of at least five in all language abilities. And the minimum age to apply for the Priority Skills program is 21 years.
