Skilled newcomers with STEM experience receive their first Express Entry invitations, paving the way for exciting career prospects. The category-based selection process for the first round of STEM will commence during the week starting July 5th. The Honorable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, made this announcement today.
When invitations are distributed, priority will be given to individuals with expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). For example, data scientists, software developers, programmers, mathematicians, statisticians, actuaries, electrical engineers, and electronic engineers.
Canada aims to meet the increasing need for STEM professionals and occupy crucial roles that propel the country’s technological and economic growth through the implementation of this program.
Canada’s STEM talent milestone – Attracting global innovators
Canada’s quest to attract global talent and maintain its position as a leader in research. Also, development and innovation have reached a significant milestone. Moreover, the recent announcement aligns with the government’s efforts to address the shortage of STEM workers and attract and retain the best candidates. This is in line with the Tech Talent Attraction Strategy’s recent launch.
Last month, Minister Fraser introduced the new selection process for Express Entry, which is categorized based on specific criteria. This innovative approach aims to enhance Francophone immigration by encouraging individuals with specific work experience or fluency in French to pursue permanent residency. The category-based choices will address labor demands that have a clear economic objective.
Canada’s position as a leader in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics greatly depends on its ability to attract top talent from all over the world. Alongside Minister Champagne, I am excited to announce the implementation of this new selection round for STEM professionals. It will enhance their chances of obtaining permanent residency. We are looking forward to welcoming these talented and innovative immigrants to our country, as stated by the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, the Hon. Sean Fraser.
Further details will be shared in the upcoming weeks. In addition to the general invitation rounds, category-based selection rounds will be conducted throughout the year.
