On September 8 IRCC unveiled 2023 update for Family Sponsorships. IRCC is expected to accept up to 15,000 sponsorship applications this year under the PGP.
A mailing to 24,200 potential sponsors on October 10 will begin the IRCC’s effort to obtain up to 15,000 complete applications.
Rather than starting a new interest to sponsor form due to the quantity of 2020 submissions still in the pool. It is a random subset of those sponsors will receive invitations to apply.
We strongly advise applicants who filled out a form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply in 2021 or 2022 to check the email address they provided in 2020.
Additionally, IRCC will continue to use the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal for applications for the 2023 intake, which make electronic submissions easier.
Immigration Levels Plan
As part of its 2022 initiative, IRCC invited 23,100 prospective sponsors to submit applications on behalf of their parents and grandparents. As a guide to its operations and a statement of its goals for welcoming immigrants to Canada, IRCC releases its Immigration Levels Plan every year.
Canada will accept approximately 465,500 immigrants by 2023, with 28,500 of them being parents and grandparents. Canada expects to welcome 500,000 newcomers by 2025, which includes 36,000 parents and grandparents.
The Super Visa – An overview
Canadian citizens and permanent residents can apply for the “Canada Super Visa” if their parents or grandparents are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Canada’s “Parent and Grandparent Super Visa” is officially known as this.
Canada Super Visas allow visitors to stay for up to two years in Canada while visiting children or grandchildren. Visas with multiple entries permit the bearer of the visa to enter Canada several times within ten years.

What is the eligibility for the Super visa?
If you want to apply for a Super Visa, you must be either a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. In the case that their dependents do not meet the requirements for the Super Visa, they can apply for an ordinary guest visa. Before applying for a Super Visa, individuals must meet family relationship criteria, undergo an admissibility evaluation, and fulfill several other requirements.
A visa officer inspects an application thoroughly and considers several factors before deciding whether it is eligible.
Applicants must actively persuade these officers that their genuine intention is to visit Canada for a short duration. As well as they will leave freely once their stay is over. It is possible for the officer to take into account a number of variables, such as:
- Relationships and affiliations within the country of origin of an individual.
- An explanation of the purpose behind the intended visit is required.
- Financial and familial circumstances of the applicant.
