Minister of Canada unveils new plans in a recent interview

In a recent TV interview, Canada’s immigration minister, Marco Mendicino, shared some new measures on the country’s immigration plans in the wake of Coronavirus. Mendicino has talked about three important sections: Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023, Municipal Nominee Program, and Canadian Citizenship.

Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023

Mendicino discussed the federal government’s three years Immigration Levels Plan in his interview. The government has planned to welcome a large number of immigrants in the years to come. Canada has decided to increase the intake of immigrants each year for the next three years. The country is set to welcome nearly 400,000 immigrants this year. This is known to be the highest target in the immigration history of Canada. The immigration minister had made his point in the interview that Canada had the choice of pausing immigration levels for some time. However, it chose the opposite. Canada, in fact, increased the immigration targets as the country believes that new immigrants will be the key to economic revival.

Creation of a Municipal Nominee Program

In December 2019, Canada decided to launch Municipal Nominee Program to attract new immigrants to settle in the rural cities of Canadian provinces. Other immigration initiatives such as Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot and Atlantic Immigration Pilot have performed well in attracting newcomers. With the help of a Municipal Nominee Program, other smaller Canadian cities will also be able to attract new immigrants. The Immigration Minister has stated that the IRCC is already in talks with municipal, business, provincial, and other stakeholders regarding the layout of the Municipal Nominee Program.

Citizenship of Canada

Marco Mendicino has discussed the new pilot in the recent interview. The new program enables the applicants to obtain their Canadian citizenship online. Also, he believes that Canada is the only country that is conducting online citizenship ceremonies. Thus, despite the pandemic situation, Canada has been creating ways to grant citizenship to permanent resident cardholders.
