This totals 1,095 days after obtaining permanent resident status. But this period can also include time spent as a protected person or temporary resident. Each day counts half toward the criterion, up to 365 days.
In addition, candidates usually have to show that they have filed taxes in Canada for three of the previous five years, particularly if they have worked there as temporary or permanent residents. People who do not file their taxes are not entitled for credits, benefits, or refunds from the government. It is also required to have a minimum CLB score of four and proficiency in one of the two official languages of Canada, French or English. Candidates who satisfy these requirements also need to be able to pass a citizenship exam given by IRCC. The test lasts 20 to 30 minutes. At least 15 out of 20 questions must be answered correctly to receive a passing grade.

- Receive their citizenship certificate;

- Sing the national anthem.
