2026 Focus And Selection Method
In its latest update, Alberta stated that AAIP draws and nominations in 2026 will focus on occupations linked to healthcare, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, agriculture, and communities named under the Rural Renewal Stream.
The province also noted that invitations may still be issued outside these listed priority areas.
Alberta has also confirmed that draws are not scheduled in advance. The minimum score is not the only factor used in selection. Other factors may include:
- Work experience in a priority occupation
- Working as a licensed physician in Alberta
- Being a francophone newcomer seeking to settle in the province
Provincial Nomination Numbers
Alberta reports a 2026 nomination allocation of 6,403. As of February 5, 2026, the province had issued 405 nominations, with 5,964 spaces still available.
Most nominations issued so far have been through the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
Alberta also noted that up to 10,000 federal immigration spaces are available across all Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) for practice-ready physicians and Francophones who meet federal requirements. AAIP nominations issued under this initiative in 2026 will not count toward Alberta’s total allocation of 6,403.
