Through their Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs), three Canadian provinces issued this week’s PNP draw results and nominated immigration candidates. These programs, which are available in every province but Quebec and Nunavut, provide economic-class immigrants with a way to settle and find work in the region they are supporting. It is noteworthy that every province employs unique scoring mechanisms for PNP candidate evaluations, resulting in a range of outcomes, as delineated below.
Three Canadian provinces issued this week’s PNP draw results
British Columbia
British Columbia (B.C.) issued at least 216 ITAs to prospective immigrants on January 23rd, inviting them to apply through six different streams of the B.C. Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). Notably, general draws were held in many streams: International Graduate, International Graduate EEBC, Express Entry British Columbia (EEBC), and Skilled Worker. Candidates had to receive at least 120 points to be eligible for any of these draws. In addition, candidates with a minimum score of 98 were invited to a separate general draw under the Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled stream, yielding a total of 79 ITAs.
Furthermore, within its Skilled Worker, International Graduate (including EEBC option) stream, British Columbia (B.C.) held targeted draws. With job experience in four different occupational categories—childcare (66 ITAs), construction (34 ITAs), healthcare (36 ITAs), and veterinary care (<5 ITAs)—these draws explicitly target immigration hopefuls. With the exception of the Construction category, which required a higher score of 75, candidates had to achieve a minimum score of 60 in order to be considered for these draws.
Manitoba
Manitoba sent NOIs, which are the same as ITAs, on January 25th in three different streams.
The Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream awarded 156 Notices of Interest to a minimum of 772 individuals. The candidate or their spouse had to have finished their post-secondary education in Manitoba in order to be eligible for this draw.
The International Education Stream sent invitations to 78 immigration candidates; however, no information regarding the immigration score cut-off was provided.
The Skilled Worker Overseas stream granted 41 NOIs to applicants who met the minimum score requirement of 713.
This week, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) issued 275 Letters of Advice to Apply (NOIs); among them, 29 were granted to individuals who met the requirements for Express Entry.
Ontario
The Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OINP) held two separate draws this past week.
1,654 applicants received invitations from the province on January 19th through its Employer Job Offer Foreign Worker stream. In order to be eligible for this draw, candidates needed to receive at least 50 points. The OINP then sent out 12 targeted invites to individuals who qualified for the federal Economic Mobility Pathways Project on January 24th within the same stream.
With the help of established economic paths, the Economic Mobility paths Project facilitates the admission of skilled refugees to Canada. This program gives companies access to a new pool of competent applicants for open positions while also facilitating the integration of refugees.
Furthermore, Ontario held two additional separate draws for the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate streams on January 24. Candidates for the Master’s Graduate stream had to score 50 or above, while those for the PhD Graduate stream had to score at least 45. It is unknown how many applicants were really ITAs in these draws.
Ultimately, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) declared on January 19th that it had reached its 2023 nomination cap. In all of its streams, the show received 16,500 nominations in the last year.
The increasing significance of PNP
The present immigration levels plan for 2024–2026 allots comparatively less to the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), but there will be a significant adjustment in 2025. The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), expected to be the primary source of income for immigrants to Canada, receives more than 110,000 annual contributions. PNPs are crucial to the country’s immigration scene, accounting for over 20% of all yearly immigrant allocations.
These initiatives aim to spread the benefits of immigration across Canada, with a particular emphasis on regions where the presence of newcomers might have a favorable impact on smaller provincial labor markets and demography. The focus is on making sure that the advantages of immigration spread to other areas of the nation and on promoting regional development.
