As per the latest reports, certain Ukraine nationals will no more be required to submit their biometrics at the overseas Visa Application Centres.
Further, the report stated that the majority of Ukraine citizens still have to fulfill the biometrics requirements before they land in Canada.
The Canadian government depends on biometrics to ensure the integrity of Canada’s visa program and to manage the identity of foreign nationals.
Therefore, to protect the Canadian residents as well as the Ukrainians when they reach Canada, biometrics collection is an essential element of the screening process.
However, the government has eased this biometrics requirement for certain Ukraine people who may be low risk to the country to speed up the processing.
The individuals falling under these three groups are:
- Ukraine Individuals of 14 – 17 age
- Ukraine seniors above the age of 60
- Ukraine nationals who have Canadian visas previously with no degrading immigration record
Ukrainian children below the age of 14 do not need biometrics.
Canada made this decision out of extreme caution for Canadian nationals and Ukrainians escaping the Ukraine war situations.
The relaxing of biometrics rules will facilitate Ukrainian citizens’ arrival in Canada quickly and safely.
The government of Canada is offering a variety of immigration measures to help Ukrainians impacted by the war with Russia.
Two weeks back, IRCC announced the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) and introduced an open work permit for three years for Ukrainian nationals.
Earlier, Ukrainian nationals need to submit biometrics overseas before visiting Canada as per the IRCC’s demand. But this posed a challenge for Visa Application Centers as the number of Ukrainian citizens willing to offer their biometrics surpassed the available place at visa centers.
Many media persons, civils, and rival parties were regularly asking immigration minister Sean Fraser if the government could set aside the visa conditions for Ukraine people or at least drop the overseas biometric requirements and let them submit their biometrics on their arrival on Canadian land.
On the other side, analysts debated that these biometrics requirements are hindering the Canadian government from helping Ukraine nationals.
But the minister explained that this would pose more difficulty for the government to identify possible security threats who are seeking entry into Canada through the CUAET.
The IRCC’s recent statement that overseas biometrics requirements are easing for certain groups reflects the fact that these groups pose less of a security risk to the country than others.
In contrast, other overseas nationals have to submit their biometrics prior to visiting Canada at Visa Application Centers.
They have to submit their fingerprints and a photograph.
By utilizing biometric measures, travelers can be identified more efficiently and can be expedited into Canada for those traveling at low risk.
